Typical Pricing Ranges

These ranges are based on typical residential kitchen refinishing work across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire. Every project is quoted individually after a walkthrough.

Small kitchen

$2,000 to $3,500

8 to 12 doors, compact layout, minimal damage

Includes cleaning, light repair, color matching and sprayed finish.

Medium kitchen

$3,500 to $6,500

15 to 25 doors, standard island or peninsula, some wear

The most common range for a full residential refinishing project.

Large kitchen

$6,500 to $10,000+

30+ doors, large island, multiple cabinets, trim and built-ins

Includes more prep, repair, material and detail work.

What Drives the Cost

Number of cabinet doors and drawers

Each door and drawer gets individual prep, repair, spray time and drying time. More pieces means more material and labor.

Condition of the cabinets

Nicks, chips, water damage and worn edges need filling, sanding and blending before the finish goes on. Light touch ups are quick; heavy restoration takes more time.

Finish type and color

Stains, paints, glazes and custom colors vary in material cost and coats. A dramatic color change from dark stain to bright white may need more primer and blocking steps.

Kitchen size and layout

Large islands, built in appliances, pantry banks, crown molding and glass doors add detail and surface area.

Hardware and accessories

Removing and reinstalling existing hardware is standard. New hardware, soft close hinges or glass inserts are extras.

Location and access

Travel within New England is included for most metro areas. Islands, remote locations or tight job sites may add time.

Refinishing, Refacing or Replacing?

Refinishing

35 to 55% of replacement

  • Keeps existing boxes and doors
  • Any custom color or stain
  • Days, not weeks
  • No demolition or dumpster

Best for: Cabinets are structurally sound and you like the layout.

Refacing

60 to 75% of replacement

  • New doors and drawer fronts
  • Boxes stay in place
  • Newer look than refinishing

Best for: Boxes are solid but the door style or material needs an update.

Full replacement

100% baseline

  • New layout possible
  • All new materials
  • Longest lasting if old boxes are failing

Best for: Boxes are damaged or you want to change the kitchen layout.

Why Refinishing Is Usually the Best Value

If your cabinet boxes are solid and you are happy with the layout, refinishing gives you a completely new look at a fraction of the cost and disruption of replacement. You keep the craftsmanship of your existing cabinets, avoid weeks of demolition, and get a factory quality finish in a matter of days.
